Project Description
The floor of the chancel at the front of St. Andrews Episcopal Church was covered with flagstones except for two rectangular areas that were made of cement. The surface of the cement areas was level with the tops of the flagstones, which meant the cement would have to be broken up with a jackhammer and removed, then re-covered with cement as a subfloor low enough to cover it with flagstones whose tops would be level with their neighbors.
Our proposed alternative, which avoided the noise, dust, and expense of removing and replacing the cement, was to disguise the cement as flagstones that matched the look of the real flagstones that surrounded them.
Our faux flagstones matched the real ones so perfectly that some church members who were not aware of what we did thought the cement had been replaced with flagstones.

Work in progress

We started by applying a bonding agent which helps the cement we added o stick to the Formica®. It's a necessary first step because the smooth, shiny, and non-porous Formica® surfaces are specifically designed to prevent anything from sticking to them.
