Project Description
Our team of six artists spent seven months spread over slightly more than two years glazing, gilding, and hand-painting the walls, trim, and ceilings in most of the public spaces in this 23,000 square foot residence. Our work was commissioned on behalf of the homeowner by the Interior Designer responsible the look and feel of every space in the residence.
Work on the hand-painted Dining Room ceiling mural began off-site before the massive renovation of the historically registered property reached the point where we could work on-site. The mural was executed on canvas, then installed on the ceiling with wallpaper paste.
Gilding throughout the residence was only applied to the highlights of selected elements that are part of the plaster-cast capitals and crown mouldings. The look is based on gilding that the owner took us to see in the meeting rooms at the U. S. Department of State.
Although our contract for the project was with the client’s interior designer, the owner was closely involved in overseeing our work. He was so pleased and proud of the final result that he allowed us to bring prospective future clients to the home to show our work whenever we wanted.
