3 Multi-process Gilded Finish

This translucent navy blue over traditionally gilded imitation gold leaf tile floor was executed in five steps. The gold leaf background was executed by applying imitation gold leaf in a carefully aligned and properly overlapped 5.15” x  5.15” grid pattern over previously applied 24-hour oil-based size after the size had reached the proper tack, then burnishing the leaf with a gilding brush before the size dried and skewing away the overlaps.  The third step was applying the translucent navy blue glaze through a tile-patterned stencil and connecting the bridges by hand.  Then, after an overnight dry, the finish received a protective clearcoat to protect the finish and enhance the sheen. Then a second protective clearcoat was applied on the following day.
